KAMLOOPS — The TRU volleyball teams were stymied by the Saskatchewan Huskies in their home openers at the TCC Friday (Oct. 31) night in Kamloops.

The WolfPack women suffered their first defeat of the season as they dropped a 3-1 (25-17, 18-25, 25-19, 25-17) decision to the Huskies to fall to 2-1 on the season.

Rida Erlalelitepe paced the WolfPack attack with 13 kills and a pair of aces, while Kamloopsian Hail Ward added 12 kills. Lauren Junck added a career-high eight kills while Libby Meldrum recorded 35 assists and 14 digs.

TRU had 29 errors on the night to Saskatchewan’s 16.

The WolfPack men also fell 3-0 (25-17, 28-26, 25-21) to the Huskies Friday night, to drop to 2-3 on the season.

Second-year outside hitter Alex Howard was once again at the forefront of the WolfPack attack as he recorded nine kills. Rylan Ibbetson was next with five while Jakob Leinemann, Aiden Goetz and Daniel Hitchens all had four each.

“It was a tough night, we didn’t get into any sense of rhythm,” WolfPack head coach Pat Hennelly said. “The second set was a two-point game but down the stretch we didn’t look like a team that was in a two-point game.”

“Obviously we have to regroup, stick to the game plan and hopefully we can put a little pressure on Saskatchewan.”

The WolfPack and Huskies will rematch at the TCC on Saturday afternoon. The women’s game is scheduled to get underway at 3:00 p.m. with the men set to follow suit at 4:45 p.m.
