VANCOUVER — There were no Halloween scaries for the TRU WolfPack men’s basketball team as they earned a famous win in Vancouver Friday (Oct. 31) night.

The WolfPack beat the nationally ranked UBC Thunderbirds 85-74, as they improved to 2-0 on the season. It was also the WolfPack’s fourth win over UBC and their first since the 2015-16 Canada West semifinal.

Jayden Stephens led the way for the WolfPack with 31 points, while Dami Farinloye added another 18 points along with eight rebounds and four assists. Reuben Wright added nine points and eight rebounds while Steve Stinson racked up nine points and seven assists.

The WolfPack outscored the Thunderbirds in the first, second, and fourth quarters, with 27 of their 85 points coming in the final 10 minutes of the game.

“I thought our guys came out and played really hard and played together,” head coach Chad Jacobson said. “We were telling them all week that we didn’t have to do anything miraculous to come out here and get a win, we just had to do our job and that’s what the guys did today.”

“I’m proud of all the guys’ efforts in finding a way to get a win today.”

In women’s basketball action, it was a tough outing for the WolfPack as they dropped a 72-26 decision to the UBC Thunderbirds to remain winless at 0-2.

Rookie Colby Konig led the way for TRU with a team-high six points, while Micah Ramsay and Hailey Merrigan finished with four each.

The WolfPack and Thunderbirds will rematch this afternoon with the women’s game set for 4:00 p.m. followed by the men at 6:00 p.m.
