COLLINS: There is no art in Trump’s deals
A FEW YEARS AGO, Donald Trump wrote a book. It was called, “The Art of the Deal.” It was his best-selling book. It also was a farce. His co-writer, at one point, suggested he wished he hadn’t been involved and both he and the publisher said Trump didn’t write a word of the book. The co-writer said it was the worst mistake of his life. So even 40 years ago, it was easy to see where his life was heading.
And here we are — 2025 and Trump is still as big a shyster as he always was. The only art in Trump’s deals is to find ways to crush his opponents. Donald’s desire to be seen as the best president ever is behind every decision he makes. His deals are a lot of talk and no positive actions.
His moves against Canada are a textbook case in making a “deal”, Trump style. First of all, he establishes major tariffs. Canada comes back with a few of its own. Donald puts out the idea of Canada becoming the 51st state, then when we say no to that and he starts to look around for other ways to squeeze us with more tariffs, more verbal attacks, more tariffs, more attacks, more tariffs. Until he crushes us and, like the defeated UFC fighters, we have to tap out. If Donald Trump has his way, for all time he will lord it over us.
Canada should not make any deals with the U.S, but I really can’t see that happening. But in any deal we do make, we must make sure Trump can’t back out, put more tariffs in place, or stab us in the back. He would do it in a heartbeat. That’s how he makes his deals. Squeeze and squeeze until you can’t bleed any more then take your money and run. And that’s why it’s important not to give an inch more than necessary.
