KELOWNA — The TRU WolfPack basketball teams began the 2025-26 Canada West season with a split.

The WolfPack men beat the UBCO Heat 76-57 in Kelowna Friday (Oct. 24) night. TRU outscored their Okanagan rivals 24-5 in the fourth quarter.

Jayden Stephens led all scorers with 23 points and eight rebounds in his WolfPack debut. Dami Farinloye added a double-double with 17 points and ten rebounds, while fifth-year forward Thomas Olsen added ten points and nine rebounds of his own.

“We knew coming into this game that it was going to be tough. UBCO is a scrappy, hard-nosed team that competes and they certainly did that tonight,” head coach Chad Jacobson said.

“The difference was just our willingness to defend and our overall compete level. We really got after it defensively in the fourth quarter, we finished plays with defensive rebounds and were able to get out and run for some easy scores to break things open late.”

The WolfPack women fell just short in their season opener as they were beaten 52-48 by the Heat.

Morgan Eichenberger finished with 16 points, eight rebounds and five blocks. Those five blocks are the second-most by a WolfPack player in a single-game in program history.

Debutants Olena Vasylenko (eight points and five assists) and Hailey Merrigan (seven points and eight rebounds) also chipped in for the WolfPack.

Both WolfPack basketball teams play the UBC Thunderbirds in Vancouver next Friday and Saturday (Oct. 31 and Nov. 1).
