KAMLOOPS — A major sewer main replacement project in Kamloops is nearing the end of the first year of work.

The City of Kamloops says crews are scheduled to prep for and then pour concrete starting Saturday (Oct. 25) until Wednesday (Oct. 29). It noted that this work will be “highly impactful” to all properties along Tranquille Road between Crestline Street and Downie Street.

“Impacts will include changes to street parking and temporary loss of vehicle access to driveways,” the city said. “Access on foot will be maintained.”

Crews are scheduled to begin pouring concrete on the north side of Tranquille Road at Crestline Street and they’ll move east to Downie Street. They’ll then switch to the south side of Tranquille Road and move west from Downie Street to Crestline Street.

While concrete pouring work will be complete as of Oct. 30, the city said driveways in the work zone will remain inaccessible until Nov. 5 so the concrete can cure. Residents who live in the work zone can find information regarding vehicle parking options here.

“The concrete requires significant time to cure and driving over it will result damage in to the curb,” the city added. “Any damaged curb will need to be removed, and the driveway will need to be closed for an additional 10-12 days while new curbs are poured.”

Once the concrete has cured, crews will turn their attention to pave Tranquille Road between Crestline Street and Downie Street. That work is scheduled to take place between Nov. 6 and 8, after which the corridor is expected to reopen to vehicles.

“As we look ahead to the end of construction season, work on this project will wind down just west of Downie Street in November,” the city added. “Crews will complete as much as they can this year and will return in the spring to recommence the work.”

Work next year will take place between Downie Street and Southill Street and the entire project is expected to be done by October 2026.

This third phase of sewer work along Tranquille Road also includes a number of surface improvements like new sidewalks and a new multi-use path on an “integral” east-west active transportation corridor that was identified in the city’s Transportation Master Plan.

The first phase of sewer work along Tranquille Road west of Crestline toward Kamloops Airport was completed in 2017, while the second phase between Southill Street and 12th Street was completed in 2021.
