KAMLOOPS — The identities of three members of a North Shore family who were injured in a house fire early Saturday (Oct. 18) morning have been made public.

An online fundraiser has identified the trio as a couple named Sarah and Rick, along with their four-year-old son Ben.

According to the fundraiser organizer and family friend, Jenn Hamar, Sarah is in an intensive care unit while Rick is being treated at a burn unit in Vancouver. Ben is also on the coast receiving specialized care at BC Children’s Hospital.

“They have lost everything — their home, their possessions, the comfort of their daily life — but not their love, their courage, or the hope that they will be together again soon,” Hamar wrote.

A goal of $18,000 was set to raise funds for the family to travel between hospitals and to provide clothing, essentials and temporary housing. As of early Friday (Oct. 24) morning, more than $8,300 had been raised.

Kamloops RCMP say they were called to help Kamloops Fire Rescue (KFR) as they fought a fire in the 1300-block of Sitka Street around 4:20 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 18. RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Dana Napier said while three residents in the burning house were able to escape, they suffered serious injuries.

Napier noted the RCMP General Investigation Service team is working with KFR to determine what sparked the fire.

Anyone with further information is asked to contact Kamloops RCMP at (250) 828-3000 and refer to file number 2025-34788.
