KAMLOOPS — The Kamloops Blazers have added a veteran defenceman in the hopes of bolstering a blueline that is missing a pair of key pieces.

Friday (Oct. 17) evening, the Blazers announced the acquisition of 19-year-old Carson Olsen from the Lethbridge Hurricanes for a conditional eighth round pick in the 2026 WHL Prospects Draft.

A native of Warman, Sask., Olsen has a goal and three points in nine games this season. Last season, he had two goals and 10 points in 48 games with Salmon Arm and Spruce Grove in the BCHL.

The six-foot tall right shot defenceman has committed to playing NCAA Division 1 hockey for the University of Massachusetts Lowell next season.

Olsen is expected to bring a veteran presence to the Blazers blueline this season as overage defenceman Rhett Ravndahl remains sidelined with an injury while 19-year-old Harrison Brunicke continues to toil with the Pittsburgh Penguins.

The Blazers will also be without 16-year-old rookie defenceman Joaquin Geras, who will compete in the 2025 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge in Nova Scotia early next month.

Olsen is expected make his debut Saturday (Oct. 18) night in Swift Current, when the Blazers play the Broncos to wrap up their six-game East Division road trip.

The Blazers will then return home to Sandman Centre to face the Medicine Hat Tigers on Friday, Oct. 24.
