Merritt’s emergency department to close temporarily Wednesday evening; first closure since March

MERRITT, B.C. — Interior Health has announced a temporary closure of the emergency department at Nicola Valley Hospital in Merritt.
In a news release distributed Wednesday afternoon (Oct. 15), IH says the department will close at 6:00 p.m. Wednesday and reopen at 7:00 a.m. Thursday.
No reason is provided for the closure. Patients in the Merritt area who require emergency care advised to call 9-1-1 or visit Royal Inland Hospital in Kamloops.
This is the 12th temporary ER closure in Merritt so far in 2025, but the first since the department was closed and reopened seven times during the month of March.
