KAMLOOPS — Ben Finley scored twice to lift the TRU WolfPack men’s soccer team to a 3-1 win over the UBCO Heat at Hillside Stadium Saturday (Oct. 11) evening.

Finley’s pair of second half goals helped the WolfPack sweep the weekend to improve to 3-10-1 in the Pacific Division. The Heat dropped to 1-11-2 to remain in the basement of the division.

“We started out 0-6 and we just said let’s forget about those and now we are 3-4-1 in our last eight and a couple of those losses should have been results our way,” WolfPack head coach John Antulov said. “You are starting to see maturity and growth in this group.”

“Overall you are starting to see the team move together, score goals and get results which brings positivity all over.”

Abdel Coulibaly opened the scoring for the WolfPack with his third goal of the season just past the 20 minute mark in the first half. The Heat equalized about ten minutes later to send the two teams in the dressing room tied at 1-1.

Finley then struck in the 55th minute to put the WolfPack back in the lead, and he sealed the win in the 88th minute.

The WolfPack are one win behind the 4-7-2 UNBC Timberwolves and the 4-6-2 Trinity Western Spartans for the fourth and final playoff spot with two games left to play.

TRU will close out the regular season with a pair of home games against the Spartans on Saturday (Oct. 18) and the Fraser Valley Cascades on Sunday. The Spartans play the Heat on Sunday while the Timberwolves host the 13-0-1 UBC Thunderbirds next weekend.

The 5-7 WolfPack women will also conclude the Canada West regular season next weekend with a pair of home game against the UBCO Heat.
