PRINCE GEORGE — Mion Kinugasa of Williams Lake has committed to play university soccer at the University of Northern British Columbia in Prince George.

The 2007-born midfielder/winger is pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree Of Health Sciences (Bio-Med) at UNBC. He has been training as a red-shirt with the Timberwolves since early August.

“Putting the jersey on was exciting and a relief in just knowing that I was committed and that this is the next step for me,” Kinugasa, who graduated in 2025 from Lake City Secondary in Williams Lake, said.

Kinugasa played for the PG Youth Soccer Association Impact under head coach Ryan Beer During his senior year, he had 12 goals and five assists during Provincials, high school and youth soccer.

That earned him AAA Provincial all-star honours along with the Male Athlete of the Year award at Lake City.

“Mion is a talented and intelligent central midfielder who fits our playing philosophy extremely well. He joins an experienced and high-quality midfield group, which will provide an excellent environment for his development as he transitions from youth soccer to the U Sports level,” UNBC head coach Steve Simonson added.

“Mion also has strong ties to the North and the Prince George region, so it’s exciting to see another northern product earn the opportunity to compete at this level.”

Kinugasa says he’s been trying to soak up as much knowledge as possible during his first few months in Green and Gold.

“I’m excited to continue to learn more things, get better, and compete under [Simonson] for UNBC,” he added.

“And my teammates provide a great balance between banter, competitiveness and a great overall environment where players are pushing each other to get better as a young squad.”

The 4-7-2 TWolves are on a bye week this weekend, and they’ll end the 2205 Canada West regular season with a pair of home games against the UBC Thunderbirds next Friday and Saturday (Oct. 17 and 18).
