KAMLOOPS – On Sunday (Oct. 12), the Kamloops United Church (KUC) PIT stop program will be handing out hearty Thanksgiving meals to those in need.

The organization expects to serve hundreds of people.

After a fire significantly damaged the KUC building over a year ago, the church is still experiencing issues.

“It’s a tradition we don’t want to miss, and we still want to maintain, even though the fire happened. We still make sure that we provide for the community, and we’ve never missed a meal. It’s going to be a big one, at the Sandman Centre on the 12th of October at 3:00 p.m. We’re looking to serve over 250 people,” Valentine Uwakwe, program coordinator for PIT Stop at the KUC says.

The organization is calling on people from across the city to donate clothes and food items that they can give to those in need.

“If somebody can bring those things forward to us, at least between the 8th and 10th of October, so we can put this together to make up the goodie bags that will go a long way to help the community, because it’s actually getting cold out. We’re trying to add this to the quality of the meal,” Uwakwe says.

More information about the meal can be found on their social media.
