KENT, WA — Jordan Keller scored his first hat trick of the season but the Kamloops Blazers were beaten 7-4 by the Seattle Thunderbirds in Washington state Friday (Oct. 3) night.

JP Hurlbert also scored for the 3-1 Blazers, who suffered their first defeat of the WHL season. Hurlbert leads all WHL skaters in goals with seven and he leads all rookies with 10 points through four games.

Captain Ryan Michael chipped in with three assists on the night while Nathan Behm added two assists of his own.

Seattle lead 2-0 after one period though the Blazers pulled even as Keller and Hurlbert struck 1:02 apart midway through the second. The T-Birds though scored three unanswered to lead 5-2 two minutes into the final frame.

Keller brought the Blazers back to within one as he scored at 3:46 and 12:09 of the period, but there was no trying goal for the visitors. Seattle closed out the game with a pair of goals – one of which was into the empty net – as they improved to 2-2 this season.

The Blazers’ Logan Edmonstone made 30 saves on 36 shots in a losing effort, while Marek Sklenicka turned aside 33 of 37 to pick up the win for Seattle.

Kamloops will try to get back into the win column this evening (Oct. 4) when they host the Portland Winterhawks at Sandman Centre. It’s a 6 p.m. puck drop.
