BARRIERE, B.C. — Residents in the District of Barriere can resume using water for non-essential purposes as crews have finished repairs on a municipal well.

The strict Stage 3 water restrictions took effect on Monday last week (Sept. 22) as repairs were needed at one of the district’s two water wells on Spruce Crescent, which wasn’t functioning properly.

“The district has successfully completed repairs to our municipal wells,” a statement from the District of Barriere said. “Water capacity has been fully restored, meaning restrictions are no longer needed.”

“The District of Barriere has reverted back to Stage 1 water conservation, which is in effect year-round. Residents are reminded to continue using water wisely to protect this essential resource and adhere to permitted watering times.”

The easing of water restrictions means people can also light campfires within District of Barriere. While a campfire ban was rescinded across the Kamloops Fire Centre this past Monday (Sept. 29), Barriere did not follow suit out of an abundance of caution.

“Fire safety remains everyone’s responsibility. Please ensure all campfires are safe, fully extinguished and that they follow size and material restrictions,” the district statement added.

“The District of Barriere thanks you for you patience and understanding while these necessary repairs were completed.”
