UPDATE (11:30 a.m.): Cpl. Dana Napier, Kamloops RCMP spokesperson, told CFJC Today that the truck driver wasn’t arrested and is outstanding.

EARLIER: KAMLOOPS — A Kamloops woman remains in custody after a spectacular crash on Highway 5 at Halston Avenue.

At around 3:00 p.m. Thursday (Oct. 2), Kamloops RCMP say officers saw a Ford F-350 pickup truck that was believed to be stolen as the license plate information was not associated to any vehicles.

In a news release issued Friday morning, RCMP say officers were able to identify the driver and set up a spike belt on Highway 5. However, the truck evaded the spike belt, and police say the truck continued to be driven dangerously. Citing public safety, police decided not to pursue the truck.

From there, the truck collided with another vehicle at the intersection of Highway 5 and Halston Avenue and struck a power pole before stopping. Dashcam video posted to social media captured the truck driving southbound on Highway 5 while traffic turning left onto Halston Avenue had the green light. Video also shows a driver and a woman passenger immediately leaving the truck, with the passenger navigating her way through multiple lanes of Highway 5.

“A short distance later the woman was arrested. The vehicle has been seized as part of the ongoing investigation and there were no injuries as a result of this incident,” Sgt. Jason Pole says.

Anyone who witnessed the crash or has security or dash camera video that may be related to it is asked to contact Kamloops RCMP.

CFJC Today has asked Kamloops RCMP on the status of the driver.
