WSOC: Wolfpack’s morale high despite dropping two games this past weekend

KAMLOOPS– The TRU Wolfpack women’s soccer team dropped two games over the weekend, losing contests to Trinity Western University and the University of Fraser Valley. Despite the losses, the team still sits 3rd in their division with a record of 5-5. With the team still in a playoff spot, they look to turn the page this weekend.

“We had a couple of days to mope around and be upset about the weekend,” says Katie Chun, a 5th-year player. “We had a good meeting on Monday where we just took accountability for everything that happened. We looked at everything that happened, and we just moved on from it.”

One of the big story lines for the Wolfpack this year has been Esi Lufo. She scored her eighth goal of the season last Friday against TWU, setting a new program record for most goals in a Canada West season. It also ties her with Ainsley Grether for the most career goals wearing the orange and black. While Lufo is glad the team is getting results this season, she admits she wouldn’t mind etching her name in the TRU history books.

“I’ve said this at the beginning of the year, I want to go out on the field and break every record,” adds the Albanian striker. “I’m tying Ainsley right now. It feels great, though I’m going to work harder to set a new record. I have four games left, so why not? I think I’m going to score and break the record.”

The Wolfpack gears up for two road games this weekend. On Friday, it is a matchup with the University of Victoria, followed by a game against the top team in Canada, the UBC Thunderbirds, on Saturday.
