November 20, 1952 – September 20, 2025
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Al Baker on the afternoon of September 20, 2025.
Al is survived by his wife Jill, son Keenan, daughter-in-law Toni, grand-dog Max-Max, stepmom Evelyn, sisters Dianne, Julia and Sheila, brothers Doug and Keith. He also leaves behind many sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, aunts, cousins, and beloved nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister Sharon, stepsister Susan, stepbrother Andrew, father Garth and mother June.
Al loved his family, travel, music, dogs, stargazing, bird watching (especially robins and blue herons), gardening, woodworking, sunshine and life in general. He had a sharp wit, a compassionate spirit, a determined resolve, and a wonderful sense of humor.
Al made those around him feel loved and welcome, bringing that outlook with him to Royal Inland Hospital where he befriended staff and patients. He loved his time as a teacher and school counsellor and was pleased to think that he influenced many lives.
His early retirement gave him time to enjoy his many varied interests and kept him both happy and busy as ever.
Al will be remembered for his infectious laugh and optimism, making the most of the time he had with family and friends both new and old.
A Celebration of Al’s life will be held on Saturday, October 4 at Hills of Peace Lutheran Church (695 Robson Dr., Kamloops, B.C.) at 1:00 p.m.
Al’s mantra over the past few months was Peace, Love, Joy and Laughter. In his honor, please touch someone’s life with an act of kindness.
