March 8, 1949 — September 13, 2019
George was 70 when he passed away at Kelowna General Hospital after a prolonged illness.
George was born in Edmonton AB and attended school in Lethbridge AB. During his school years, he participated in cub scouts, science club, and music. In his teens he built a bicycle-for-2, stilts, a go cart, and motorized model airplanes. When he was older, he built his first ham radio (amateur radio) and earned his call letters VE7CDM. His creativity carried him over to RV’s when he first camperized a 1961 Pontiac and then a 1973 Chevy van, driving these vehicles and his family around to camping locations on Vancouver Island and in the BC interior. After completing high school George moved to Calgary AB and graduated from Electronic Technology at SAIT (Southern Alberta Institute of Technology). Upon graduation, he secured a position with BC Tel moving the family first to Port Alberni, then Kamloops, and finally to Kelowna where he retired from Telus.
George was very musical, playing several different instruments, but guitar was his favourite. He started his musical career in Lethbridge with The Embers, the CJOC Sultans, and The International Set. In Port Alberni he played in the Mill Town Brass. Following his move to Kamloops, George continued to seek out opportunities to play music and became a member of numerous bands. Shuswap Lake was his happy place. He bought & parked a 28-foot Fan fifth wheel at Copper Island Resort as a summer home. Many hours were spent touring the lake, visiting friends, taking the kids water-skiing, and fishing for Kokanee and Kamloops trout.
George predeceased his wife Linda J. Moore. He leaves behind his children Tracy (Bill) McIntyre and James (Corinna) Moore, his grandchildren Mirin, Emmett, Niko, Katie and Emma, his sister Linda M. Moore and her family, numerous cousins, and the mother of his children, Sandra Staff. George will join his wife Linda on October 3, 2025 at Lakeview Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Kelowna BC.
