BCGEU picket lines extend to liquor and cannabis warehouses including one in Kamloops
KAMLOOPS – The BC General Employees Union (BCGEU) remains defiant as it enters the fourth week of job action. The labour dispute has spread to liquor and cannabis distribution, with picket lines now extended to three warehouses, including one here in Kamloops.
“Government is still refusing to negotiate, refusing to come to the table. We’ve done our best up to this point to minimize the impact on the public. That’s no longer possible. As of [Monday] morning, BCGEU members at four liquor distribution warehouses, as well as six other sites across the province, walked off the job, joining their colleagues on the picket lines,” said Paul Finch, BCGEU president.
Both sides remain deadlocked, with the main issue being wages and the cost of living. The union says more picket lines will be implemented if an agreement isn’t reached soon.
“There’s just over 5,000 members on picket lines across the province, and there’s over 10,000 members who are taking one form of job action or another. That is only going to increase this week and in the coming weeks if the government doesn’t come back to the table and negotiate a fair deal,” said Finch.
