John Charles Simpson

Posted Sep 18, 2025 | 11:19 AM

April 10, 1931 – September 3, 2025

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of John Charles Simpson. John passed away peacefully with family by his side on September 3, 2025, at the age of 94.

John will be forever loved and deeply missed by his devoted wife of 67 years, Barbara, his children Dana (Clint), Linda (Roland) and Cameron (Kriss), and his grandchildren Devon (Allan), Alicia (Brian) and Keenan (Jordan), step grandchildren Jordan (Britni) and Riley, and great granddaughter Harper along with her half-brothers Ethan and Miles. He is also survived by his brother Jim and many nieces and nephews.

Born at Royal Inland Hospital, John grew up in Westwold, B.C. where he, Jim and his sister Dorothy enjoyed many adventures. They were the three youngest siblings out of 11.

John loved to travel, and he spent many years traveling the world as a young man and continued with his wife Barbara especially in retirement.

John had many jobs in his life starting with a part-time custodian position at the local schoolhouse, a baker/cake decorator, a parts person for a tractor supply shop, and a custodian for the Kamloops School Board. But his main career was working in the Royal Canadian Air Force for 25 years where he climbed the ranks to Chief Warrant Officer.

During his time in the Air Force, he was stationed at RAF Langar, near the village of Langar, Nottinghamshire, England. It is here that he met his future wife Barbara at a dance where he instantly told his Air Force buddies that he would marry her one day. They were married in Nottingham, England on April 12th, 1958. Their first daughter Dana was born the next spring, and in 1960 they sailed back to Canada and settled in Comox, BC, where their 2nd daughter Linda was born. In 1964 they moved to Baldy Hughes air base in B.C., and then later to Prince George, B.C. where their son Cameron was born.

After living in many other places across Canada, John moved his family back to Kamloops after retiring from the Air Force. He worked as a custodian for the School Board, holding positions at Dallas Elementary School and then South Kamloops Senior High School where he made many friends.

Anyone who knew John would agree that he was a kind, gentle soul who everyone instantly loved. He was also known for his quick wit and sense of humour and will be desperately missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

A huge thank you to the staff at Ponderosa for their compassionate care and love that they showed John during his last years.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of John to the Alzheimer Society of British Columbia. Please send donations by cheque to Suite 300 – 828 West Eighth Avenue, Vancouver, B.C., V5Z 1E2 or donate online at alzbc.org.

Celebration of Life details to come later.

You may offer a message of condolence at Schoening Funeral Service for the Simpson family.
