KAMLOOPS — Abdel Coulibaly scored the only goal for the TRU WolfPack as both soccer teams fell at the hands of the Victoria Vikes in a Saturday (Aug. 30) game at Hillside Stadium.

Coulibaly scored just before halftime but the WolfPack gave up a pair of set-piece goals in about a seven minute span in the second half and lost 2-1. The TRU men are still winless and are 0-4 though four games this season.

Toran Rutherford, who made five saves, and Sam Barazandeh, who assisted Coulibaly’s goal, made their TRU debuts on the night.

The WolfPack women gave up the only goal of the game with seconds to play in the first half, and they fell 1-0 to the Vikes to sit 2-2.

Floor Ursem made seven saves in the TRU net as the rookie set a new career-high. Victoria’s Stefanie Mocnik made four saves to record a shutout.

“The second half was the response that we wanted, head coach Mark Pennington said. “The first half wasn’t us, it wasn’t the level that we expect and up to the standard that we set for ourselves.”

“We are disappointed to concede in the way that we did at the end of the first half but the team showed some real character. We didn’t test their goalkeeper enough and were missing that final ball to get back into it.”

The WolfPack women will play their next two games at home as they’ll host the Fraser Valley Cascades Friday (Sept. 5) and the Trinity Western Spartans Saturday. The men’s team will also play the Cascades and the Spartans on the road this weekend.
