Wildfire west of 100 Mile House listed at 200 hectares; crews report lower fire behaviour
100 MILE HOUSE, B.C. — A wildfire west of 100 Mile House has grown in size but isn’t burning as aggressively.
The Emerald Lake wildfire burning nearly 39 kilometres south of Williams Lake is measured at around 200 hectares in size.
In an update Monday (Aug. 11), the BC Wildfire Service says the increase in size is due to a better estimate as smoke disrupted their crews’ vision of the entire fire on Sunday (Aug. 10).
When crews initially responded to the fire nearly four kilometres southwest of Emerald Lake on Sunday, the wildfire service said it was burning at Rank 4 fire behaviour, meaning a high vigorous surface fire with intermittent torching. By the end of Sunday, the wildfire service said the fire behaviour had dropped to Rank 2, meaning a low vigor surface fire.
