Two overnight closures coming to Highway 1 at Tank Hill as work on new bridge progresses

LYTTON, B.C. — There will be another two overnight closures on the Trans-Canada Highway at Tank Hill this month as crews work to build a new bridge over the existing rail line.

The Ministry of Transportation and Transit says Highway 1 between Lytton and Spences Bridge will be closed in both directions from 10:00 p.m. Thursday (Aug. 7) to 9:00 a.m. Friday (Aug. 8).

The highway will also be closed from 10:00 p.m. next Tuesday (Aug. 12) to 9:00 a.m. Wednesday (Aug. 13) to allow for the placement of deck concrete on the new overpass structure.

“Checkpoints with traffic-management personnel will be set up at the Highway 12 and Highway 8 intersections to provide travellers with information about alternative routes during the closures,” a statement from the Ministry said.

“Access for emergency vehicles will be maintained at all times.

While local traffic will be able to access the Gladwin area via Nicomen River Road, all other traffic will be detoured via Highway 12 and Highway 5.

“Portable message boards in Cache Creek, Lillooet and Ashcroft will provide further guidance for drivers,” the Ministry added, noting drivers travelling between the Interior and Lower Mainland should use either Highway 3 or Highway 5 as alternative routes.

This is the latest in a series of closures on that stretch of Highway 1 as crews continue to work on repairs following the atmospheric river from Nov. 2021. Construction on the Tank Hill project is expected to be complete this November, and updates can be found here.
