Hot and cool stretches balance out to normal July for Kamloops

KAMLOOPS — Marginal, widespread heat was the theme for Kamloops in July.

According to Environment Canada, the average temperature recorded at Kamloops Airport in July 2025 was 22.7 C, slightly up from the normal 21.9 C.

It was a drier than normal month, though. The weather agency says 20.8 millimetres of precipitation was recorded at Kamloops Airport, down from the normal 30.2 recorded in July.

Speaking to CFJC Today, meteorologist Brian Proctor says while Kamloops experienced notable heat events such as the heat warning issued at the end of July, they were never prolonged.

“Really marginal events and not long-duration events sort of punctuated with brief periods of cooling down. It averaged out to a fairly normal month,” Proctor said.

Kamloops is expected to heat up again heading into the weekend. As of Thursday (Aug. 7), Environment Canada’s forecast predicts sunshine and daytime highs of 30 C on Friday and Saturday, peaking to a high of 36 C on Sunday. The weather agency predicts a daytime high of 34 C on Monday, but Proctor notes other models predict a cooling period to begin that day.

“The Canadian model might be a little slower on the cooling off, but we’re looking at a trend of warm through the end of the weekend and cooling off back toward seasonal by the middle of the next week,” he said. “Maybe we’ll see a little bit of thunderstorm potential Wednesday and Thursday, but it’s really continuous of what we’ve seen for much of the summer so far.

“We’re not seeing anything that’s really locking into a prolonged period of heat or unstable conditions.”
