KAMLOOPS — An injured paraglider had to be tended to by paramedics as well as search and rescue crews after he sustained head and shoulder injuries following a crash Wednesday (Aug. 6) evening.

Kamloops Search and Rescue says it was called to the Sabiston Creek Road area, northwest of Kamloops Lake, to reports that the paraglider had crashed.

While the circumstances of the crash remain unclear at this time, KSAR said in a post on social media that the paraglider also “had several cacti stuck to him after a rough landing.”

“[Seventeen] KSAR members attended, and by the time our team arrived, the Medevac team had already landed and stabilized the patient,” KSAR said. “Given the steep terrain, KSAR set up a rope and clutch system to safely lower the stretcher down the hillside.”

“The subject was successfully handed off to BCEHS for further care.”

In a statement to CFJC Today, BCEHS confirmed it was called around 6:13 p.m., and that it dispatched a ground ambulance with primary care paramedics as well as an air ambulance.

“After SAR crews brought the patient out, paramedics provided emergency medical treatment and transported the patient by air ambulance to hospital in serious but stable condition,” Paramedic Public Information Officer Brian Twaites, said in the statement.
