August 20, 1947 — August 1, 2025
Judy Nielsen, 77, passed away peacefully on August 1, 2025 with family by her side, in Kamloops, British Columbia. Born on August 20, 1947, in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Judy lived a full and spirited life marked by resilience, humor, and deep love for her family.
Judy spent her early years in Saskatchewan before moving to British Columbia in the late 1960s. She lived in Cranbrook and Golden before settling permanently in Kamloops in 1984 after meeting her beloved husband, Richard Nielsen. Their life together was filled with shared adventures and enduring companionship until his passing.
Throughout her working years, Judy held a variety of roles that reflected her adaptability and strong work ethic. She worked at the Big Bend Café, CIBC Bank, Beneficial Finance, and several car dealerships around Kamloops. In each position, she brought a no-nonsense attitude and a sharp wit that left an impression on colleagues and customers alike.
Judy was known for her feisty spirit and unfiltered honesty—traits that endeared her to many. If you needed a laugh or a dose of reality, Judy was the one to turn to. Her sense of humor was legendary among those who knew her best; she always had a joke ready—often inappropriate but always hilarious—that could lift anyone’s spirits.
Judy found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She loved camping and fishing. A devoted reader, she could often be found with a good book in hand. But above all else, Judy cherished time spent with her family.
She leaves behind a loving family who will miss her deeply: her sister Pat (Gary) Hildebrandt; daughter Lynnette (Keith) Sukut; son Richard (Gina) Petty; granddaughters Danica (Dom) Comita, Chayla Ryan, and Kendra (Adam) Ryan; and four great-grandchildren—Isabella Comita, Rosalia Comita, Giuseppe Comita, and Lorenzo Comita.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to Dr. Cribb and the compassionate nurses and staff at The Hamlets in Westsyde, where Judy resided for the past several years. Their care and kindness brought comfort during her final chapter.
Judy’s legacy lives on through the laughter she inspired and the memories she created with those fortunate enough to know her. May her memory bring comfort to all who loved her.
In lieu of flowers please consider making a donation to heart and stroke in honour of Judy.
