KAMLOOPS — Kamloops Blazers defenceman Harrison Brunicke will be part of Hockey Canada’s World Junior Summer Showcase this week.

The 19-year-old Brunicke is one of 44 players – four goaltenders, 12 defencemen and 20 forwards – who were invited to the seven-day camp from July. 27 to Aug. 2 at Ridder Arena in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

It’ll feature practices, scrimmages, and a trio of exhibition games as Canada prepares for the 2026 World Juniors, which will be held in Minneapolis and St. Paul this winter.

The Canadian players will be split into two teams – Red and White – for practices and an intra-squad game on July 29. Canada will then play exhibition games against Finland July 30, Sweden on Aug. 1, and the United States on Aug. 2.

Brunicke was invited to World Junior selection camp in December last year, but he had to withdraw because of a wrist injury. He’ll be aiming to crack the final roster which will feature Blazers Director of Goaltending Development, Dan De Palma on the coaching staff.

Tij Iginla, son of Blazers legend and team co-owner Jarome Iginla, was invited to camp, though he wasn’t able to attend. While the younger Iginla scored four goals in last year’s Summer Showcase, he also missed the World Juniors because of injury.
