December 21, 1987 — July 2, 2025
The world most definitely became brighter when Brandy Michelle Cartwright was born on December 21st 1987. Brandy was joy, strength, loyalty, and fire. A devoted wife to Calvin Schmidt, and fiercely loving mother of Nick and Isla, who were the heart of her world.
Whether dancing in the kitchen, offering fierce advice, or staying up late to help a friend through heartbreak, Brandy made everyone feel seen, heard, and loved. She was a force – driven in life, in love, and in everything she did. While raising two young children and her husband working out of town, Brandy completed nursing school, showing unstoppable determination and heart. Going on to become a Registered Nurse and mentor, she was adored by patients and respected by her colleagues. Her care came with humor, wisdom, and a steadiness that could calm even the hardest days.
Brandy loved her people without limits. Her family, by blood and by choice, meant everything to her. Her friends knew her as a constant source of strength, sarcasm, support, and unshakable love. She gave without asking. She showed up when it mattered. She lived in full color, with a laugh that filled rooms and hugs that made everything okay.
She is survived by her husband Calvin; children Nick and Isla; her father Dave; Marg (Gram) her brother Donny (Megan), sister Emma; Calvin’s sisters Carly and Kat (Jose) her parents-in-law Gord (Bumpa) and Cheryl (Gramma) and by a wide circle of chosen family, friends, “aunties and uncles,” and fellow world-changers.
Brandy leaves behind a legacy of kindness, of hard conversations, real love, and never doing anything halfway. She reminded us to be better, be kind, say the compliment, support the underdog, and never miss a chance to love out loud.
A celebration of her life will be held 1:00 PM August 9th, 2025 at the Kamloops Alliance Church. All are welcome to gather in her honor. Not in silence, but in music, laughter, tears, joy, stories, and community.
In lieu of flowers, please do something kind in Brandy’s name. Help someone. Hug someone. Be someone’s safe place. She would have loved that. Her light will continue to shine through every life she touched.
Brandy passed peacefully on July 2nd 2025, at her favorite place in the world, Vancouver Island. She was surrounded by love and light thanks to the incredible care of her dear friends Mia (Matt) and Craig (Chelsey), and the generosity of Hannah and Mike and the whole Drover family, who opened their home to hold space for Brandy and her family in her final days. Her spirit was met with the ocean breeze, the people she loved most, and the peace she deserved.
