February 14, 1944 – April 4, 2025
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Franz Dirk Helmut Hauzeneder.
Born February 14 in Reutlingen, Germany. He passed peacefully in his home with his family at his side on April 4, 2025.
Franz immigrated to Canada from Holland as a young boy. He grew up in Kamloops and Chase where his parents owned the general store. He often recalled how hard those first few years were as he learned to speak English and was the only boy wearing klompen to school. He helped his father build several houses in Kamloops and Paul Lake. He completed his training as a hairstylist to which he would go on to own several well-known hair and barber shops in Kamloops including Hair Unisex and Crown Cutters.
Franz is survived by his loving wife Lynne, his daughters: Jean Cousin (Darren), Jennifer (Robert Brown), and Laura. His granddaughter Jaiden Cousin. His brother Jack (Lorri), his nephew James McLeod. He is predeceased by his parents Franz and Elizabeth, his sister Elizabeth, and his daughter Janell. Many of Franz’s hobbies circulated around time with family including camping and boating on the Shuswap. He loved cycling and had the pleasure of retuning to Holland several times for bike tours. Remembered for his humor and fantastic ability to tell stories, he made fast acquaintances and friends. For years he could be found walking his dog every morning with his best friends before grabbing coffee together at Tim’s.
In lieu of a formal service, we invite family and friends to join us for one more coffee together. Coffee and refreshments are to be held June 28 from 1:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at St Andrew’s Presbyterian Church Hall at 1136 Sixth Ave.
A special thank you to Dr. Kayode Bamigboje and the Kamloops Home and Community Care team that supported Franz to remain in his home.
