VANCOUVER — British Columbia’s fifth urgent primary care centre is scheduled to open in downtown Vancouver today.
Health Minister Adrian Dix says the aim is to take the pressure off emergency departments so patients with non-life-threatening conditions don’t end up there.
He says the centre that will be staffed by family doctors and nurse practitioners will have evening hours and provide care seven days a week.
Dix says about 20 thousand people in the downtown area don’t have a family doctor, and the centre will connect them to four family physicians at a practice opening in the same building early in the new year.
