Women in Science event set for Saturday at Big Little Science Centre

KAMLOOPS — The Big Little Science Centre (BLSC) is promoting a Women in Science event this weekend to encourage all ages to participate in science. The event takes place on Saturday (March 8) in conjunction with International Women in Science Day.

“Women in Science here are primarily from students and faculty from TRU. They are going to be here doing fun hands-on activities, talking about their research and career goals or what it is they do in STEM,” said Jo-Ann Coggan, operator at Big Little Science Centre.

Throughout the week, BLSC has posted about women in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) fields, highlighting their impact and commitment.

“Women are very underrepresented in all the STEM fields; science, technology, engineering, math. The goal of doing events like this is not just to show little girls that women, powerful women and smart women are in science. [It’s] showing everybody you know that there are a lot of really incredible women scientists,” said Coggan.
