April 26, 1929 – February 12, 2025
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Alan Syme on February 12, 2025, in Kamloops, British Columbia.
Born in Salmon Arm, British Columbia, on April 26, 1929, he was the first of his family to be born in Canada after their arrival from Scotland. On April 28, 1956, Alan married Margery Jewell, and together they built a life dedicated to family and ranching. They raised their three children in Salmon Arm while working the land, later moving to Clinton, British Columbia, where ranching remained his lifelong passion. Even in his later years, he found joy in the land and the work he loved.
Alan leaves behind his loving wife, Margery Syme; his three children: Ross (Charlene) Syme, Greg (Shaundra) Syme, and Maureen (Jamie) Janzen; four grandchildren: Melissa Syme, RJ Gideon-Syme, Amanda James, and Ashley Simpson; and his eight great grandchildren: Brendon Fossheim, Maddy Fossheim, Rhett Gideon-Syme, Flynn Gideon-Syme, Jake James, Kade James, Bayne Simpson, and Laykin Simpson, who will forever cherish his memory.
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Overlander Long Term Care, Dr. DeKock, and all those who cared for Alan in his final years.
A celebration of life will be held on April 26, 2025, 1:00 p.m. at The Colombo Hall (Cantina Room) in Kamloops, B.C. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Kamloops Hospice Association.
