February 26, 1938 – February 23, 2025 

Our mom, Mrs. Geraldine “Gerry” Rosanna Friesen (Wiest) passed away in her home in Chase, B.C., on February 24, 2025, at the age of 86 years, with her son Ken and daughter-in-law Shelly by her side.

She will be lovingly remembered by her sons Ken (Shelly) of Chase, B.C., and Larry (Kelly) of Barrhaven, Ontario; grandchildren: Jessy Friesen (Kat), Rhonda Tardif (Benoit), Laura Sides (Josh), Erin Bucknell (Ben), Jennifer Friesen (Kyle), and Joshua Friesen; great-grandchildren: Brooke, Devyn and Owen. Mom will also be missed by her brothers: Ken Wiest (Pat) and Allan Wiest (Rose); and sister-in-law Fran Wiest.

She was predeceased by her husband Jacob “Jake” Friesen, brother Ernest Wiest, and parents Myron and Myrtle Wiest.

Mom was a very independent woman and remained so up until the end of life. She had a deep love for her brothers and their wives; they shared a strong relationship throughout their lives. Mom loved a good card game, in fact she smoked her son Ken in Yahtzee three nights before she passed. She loved her garden and preserving her bountiful crops.

Ken and Shelly would like to thank the palliative care team in Chase for such kindness and helping hands throughout this difficult time. A special thank-you to Mom’s Respiratory Therapist, Jennifer, in Chase who went above and beyond making Mom’s remaining days better.

By request, there will be no service but she would like her remains to be taken home to Melfort, Saskatchewan and be placed with her parents.
