Restrictions enacted as broken pipe adds to Cache Creek water woes

CACHE CREEK, B.C. — UPDATE (9:25 p.m.): The Village of Cache Creek says multiple homes in the community are completely without water after Monday’s line break.

In a new Voyent Alert! message issued Monday evening (Feb. 17), the village says the line break is on the primary line that feeds the high and middle zones of Cache Creek — a line that was installed nearly 50 years ago, in 1976. Repairs are underway, but the village says they are very challenging because of the fragility of the aging line. Repair work is expected to continue through to Tuesday morning.

The village says there is no way to reroute water around the break because of its location.

It notes many homes on higher elevations are already without water and lower elevation homes in the affected area are expected to lose water soon as the system continues to drain.

The village expects to update the situation before 12:00 noon Tuesday. More information can be found here.

EARLIER: Officials with the Village of Cache Creek say a Stage 4 Water Advisory put in place Monday (Feb. 17) is separate from a boil water advisory in place for the community.

In a Voyent Alert! message sent to residents Monday afternoon, the village says a line break took place near the high zone reservoir above Stage Road.

A Stage 4 Water Advisory is the most severe restriction put in place by the municipality. Residents subject to the restriction are asked to use water for essential purposes only.

The village says there is no estimate when the situation could be resolved.

These are the areas affected by the water restrictions:
