Edward "Ed" Ungrin

Posted Feb 5, 2025 | 11:43 AM

1930 – January 19, 2025

On January 19, 2025, Edward Ungrin passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family. Edward is survived by his beloved wife Clarice, son Michael (Natalie), daughter Diane, and grandchildren Julia (Jordan), Rebecca (Jayden), Owen (Micaela), and Rachel. Ed was predeceased by his parents and six siblings.

Ed was born in rural Manitoba, the youngest of seven siblings. As a young adult, he moved to Winnipeg to attend the MTI watchmaking program. Upon completion, Ed took a position at Garland and Wilson jewelers in Portage la Prairie; it was here that he met his future wife, Clarice. In 1955, Ed and Clarice were married, and by 1960 had welcomed their children, Michael and Diane.

1966 brought great change for Ed and Clarice, when they moved their family to Kamloops and took ownership of Marjon Jewelers. Through hard work and commitment, Marjon became a leading fine jewelry retailer in Kamloops.

Community service was a priority for both Ed and Clarice, and Ed worked tirelessly as a core member of the Rotary Club, in addition to other community initiatives. He found great pleasure in nature, and he enjoyed camping, hiking, skiing and cycling with family and friends. Ed cherished his grandchildren, and they loved their sleepovers and play times with him.

One of Ed’s singular achievements was his cycling trip across Canada at the age of 70. Ed also took part in the BC Lung Trek over 15 times and was among their top fundraisers.

Having earlier passed the operation of Marjon to Michael and Natalie,

Ed fully retired at the age of 71. He and Clarice continued to enjoy their busy and fulfilling life with friends and family.

Ed was a kind, hardworking and loving presence in our lives, and he will be remembered with love by all who knew him, and for the contributions he made in his home community.

In lieu of floral tributes, we request that donations are considered to the Kamloops Hospice Society.

Our gratitude to Dr. Paul Dickinson and Cheri for years of exceptional care at their clinic. Special thanks to staff at RIH and Hospice Society for their compassionate and outstanding service during Ed’s stay.

A tribute to Ed’s life will be held in late spring.

You may offer a message of condolence at Kamloops Funeral Home for the Ungrin family.
