WolfPack women snap lengthy losing streak with win over UNBC

KAMLOOPS — In their final home game of the 2024/25 Canada West season, the TRU WolfPack women’s basketball team finally tasted victory Saturday (Jan. 25) night

The WolfPack sent their seniors off in style with a 73-61 victory over the UNBC Timberwolves at the Tournament Capital Centre (TCC). They snapped a 31-game losing streak that dated back to Nov. 11, 2023, and recorded their first win in Kamloops since Dec. 2, 2022.

Playing in their final home games, TRU were led by career highs from both Priyanca Sundher (26) and Danijela Kovacevic (22), who combined for 48 points. Sundher was six-for-nine from three point range, while Kovacevic added seven steals and five assists.

First-year guard Kylee Koppes added nine points as the WolfPack moved to 1-15 on the season.

Over in men’s basketball action, the WolfPack tallied a season-high points total as they came away with the 103-75 victory over the Timberwolves at the TCC.

Six WolfPack players hit double-digits and combined for 86 points, including three graduating seniors – Simon Crossfield (22), Asher Mayan (14), and Denys Bachurin (11).

Dami Farinloye added 15 points, while Steve Stinson and Cyrus Harrison had 12 points each as the WolfPack moved to 8-8 on their season. They are tied with the TWU Spartans for third in the division, though the Spartans have two games in hand.

The WolfPack basketball teams will travel to Kelowna to play the UBCO Heat next weekend, with games on Friday, Jan. 31 and Saturday, Feb. 1.
