Prescribed burning planned within District of Barriere
BARRIERE, B.C. — Prescribed burning projects are set to get underway in the District of Barriere within the next two weeks.
According to the District of Barriere and Barriere Fire Rescue, residents of Airfield Road, Barkley Road, Barriere Town Road, Birch Lane, Gray Place and Spruce Crescent may notice smoke or fire department activity.
“With cooler temperatures and wetter conditions, we have an opportunity of more favorable seasonal conditions to reduce accumulated vegetation and forest fuels ahead of the next wildfire season,” the district states in a post to social media Monday (Oct. 26). ” This work supports FireSmart by reducing ground fuels, managing ladder fuels, breaking up continuous vegetation, and helping limit the potential for wildfire to spread.”
The district says smoke may be visible during burning operations. Residents are asked to be cautious near active work areas and follow directions from emergency personnel.
