Stevie Wonder Sues To Evict His Ex After 38 Years Of Rent-Free Living

Oct 26, 2026 | 6:31 AM

Stevie Wonder has filed a lawsuit in Los Angeles Superior Court seeking to remove Carmen Efferson, reportedly his one-time fiancée, from his Hollywood Hills home. Efferson has lived in the three-bedroom property rent-free since 1988 under an alleged oral agreement with Wonder. Tensions escalated in July when she refused entry to Wonder’s representatives attempting a property insurance inspection, emailing his lawyer to “fu-k the fu-k off.” The oral agreement was subsequently revoked due to noncompliance, and Efferson was given an August 27, 2026 move-out deadline. She did not leave. Wonder is now asking a judge to order her removal and seeks $600 in damages tied to lapsed insurance renewal costs. Story URL
