KAMLOOPS — The men’s and women’s TRU WolfPack soccer teams wrapped up their regular seasons on Saturday (Oct. 24) at a rainy Hillside Stadium, earning a win and suffering a close defeat against the Trinity Western Spartans.

The women’s WolfPack secured a 3-2 victory in a back-and-forth match.

“We scored three really good goals and when you’re playing a team like TWU that has the quality that they do in the attacking part of the field, you just have to stand strong and I couldn’t be more proud of the girls for digging in and seeing out the game,” said WolfPack head coach Mark Pennington.

The win means the women will host a playoff game at Hillside Stadium against the winner of Sunday’s matchup between the MacEwan Griffins or the Saskatchewan Huskies.

“[Hosting the playoff game] means everything, our fans – even in the rain here – they’re an extra player for us, so we hope we can pack the stands for next week and they can give us all of their energy,” said Pennington.

The Senior Night victory secured the women’s WolfPack their best regular season finish in the program’s history.

However, the men’s team battled hard but ultimately fell 2-1 to the Spartans.

“I thought the guys that played tonight did really, really well. It was kind of an even match all the way through except for a couple moments there where we let ourselves down defensively, but overall it was an even game and the boys battled,” said WolfPack head coach John Antulov.

The men’s WolfPack will make their return to the post season for the first time since 2023 next weekend, where they take on the Prairie Division winning Dinos on Calgary on Friday (Oct. 30).

Overall this season we have played well, it’s a fairly new team that is still getting to know each other and learn from each other so we just have to take the positives from this season,” said Antulov.

“Calgary is a really good squad, they’ve done really well on the other side so we are going to have to play our best to match them.”
