A stage musical based on the life and music of Amy Winehouse is officially in development. Legendary Broadway producer Catherine Schreiber, known for “Cabaret,” “Rent,” and “High School Musical,” is attached to the project. Casting is already underway. Mitch Winehouse, who oversees his late daughter’s estate, is also believed to be involved, suggesting her iconic songs will feature prominently. It remains unclear whether the show will follow Winehouse’s life story or use her music to accompany an original plot. One source called it “the worst kept secret in theater.” Winehouse released just two studio albums before her death in 2011 at age 27, producing hits including “Back to Black,” “Rehab,” and “Valerie.”
