Mayoral runner-up Dever, outgoing councillor Bass reflect on election night losses
KAMLOOPS — While there are 14 people celebrating election wins in Kamloops, there are 37 other candidates looking back on what might have been, as their bids for public office was unsuccessful.
It was all smiles from Nelly Dever after she placed second in the mayoral race with 6,969 votes, or roughly 23.25 per cent. Dever finished well behind mayor-elect Mike O’Reilly who earned 44.15 per cent of the vote and was the top vote-getter this year with support from 13,235 Kamloops residents.
“I’m actually quite happy with what the results of the election are,” Dever told CFJC. “Obviously, I would have liked to have been elected mayor. However, seeing five new faces around the table, I think, is a win overall.”
