KAMLOOPS — The City of Kamloops is set to break ground on the $168-million Dufferin Arena Multiplex at a public ceremony next Thursday (Oct. 29).

Last month, city council approved the budget and design, which will include three NHL-sized arenas and one mini-rink for younger age groups.

It will also feature a new Thompson-Nicola Regional District library, a fitness facility and other amenities.

Most of the construction will take place in 2027, but contractors began preliminary earthworks on the site adjacent to Kenna Cartwright Park last month.

The project is progressing through use of an integrated project delivery (IPD) team, similar to the Centre for the Arts.

The ceremony will go ahead from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the Arena Multiplex site at 2070 Hillside Drive. Attendees are reminded to wear weather-appropriate clothing and be aware of limited parking in the Kenna Cartwright Nature Park lot.

“We’re thrilled to invite you to a Build Kamloops milestone moment marking the ceremonial groundbreaking for the arena multiplex project. This project will significantly expand recreation opportunities in our community – creating new space for athletes, families, fans, and community to gather, play, and cheer together for generations to come,” said the City of Kamloops.
