SALMON ARM, B.C. — The Columbia-Shuswap Regional District’s (CSRD) next board of directors will include a mix of new and returning faces.

Shawn Smith beat four other challengers in Electoral Area F (North Shuswap-Seymour Arm). He finished with 470 votes, and was ahead of former 100 Mile House mayor Mitch Campsall (384 votes) and John A Bolt (94 votes).

Two other people who stepped up after the nomination period was extended due to insufficient candidates – incumbent Jay Simpson and Richard Shelley – later withdrew their candidacies.

Incumbent Rhona Martin won re-election in Electoral Area E (Rural Sicamous-Malakwa) with 218 votes. She finished ahead of John E Flynn (177 votes) and Norm Nelson (36 votes).

Fellow incumbent David Brooks-Hill will return to represent Electoral Area B (Rural Revelstoke-Columbia/ Trout Lake) as he earned 115 votes to Emma Sutton’s 110.

In Electoral Area D (Falkland/Salmon Valley/Deep Creek/Ranchero), newcomer Jon Kozuska finished with 255 votes and beat Dennis Lapierre (191 votes) and Melanie Beckett (97 votes). Maria Otting, who had also filed paperwork to run, later withdrew.

Three other incumbents – Marty Gibbons in Electoral Area C (Eagle Bay, White Lake, Tappen, Sunnybrae), Natalya L Melnychuk in Electoral Area G (Sorrento, Blind Bay, Notch Hill) and Karen Cathcart Electoral Area A (Rural Golden-Columbia) – were all acclaimed to office.

Other representatives to the CSRD board will be appointed by member municipal governments. The City of Salmon Arm has two representatives on the CSRD board while the Town of Golden, City of Revelstoke, and District of Sicamous get one each.
