Quesnel River Rush quell Kamloops Storm in shootout

KAMLOOPS — A third period goal from the Quesnel River Rush forced Saturday (Oct. 10) night’s game into overtime, resulting an a 4-3 shootout loss for the Kamloops Storm at McArthur Park Arena.

Deegan Bert’s goal assisted by Diego Cazac opened up the scoreboard with just 45 seconds left in the first period for the River Rush.

Starting the second frame at a 1-0 score for the River Rush, the Storm raged back with Luca D’Amore getting the team on the scoreboard at the 5:09 mark with assists Malcolm Anderson and Keegan Sanders.

One minute and 30 seconds later, the River Rush would pull ahead again when Landon Wegleinter got the puck into the net with an assist from Carter Thiessen.

With under two minutes left in the second period, a pair of rapid fire goals just seconds apart from Kwentyn Oss and assists from Aidan Hicks and Mattias Holte at the 18:17 and 18:37 marks earned the Storm a 3-2 tally to finish off the second frame.

Bert would finish off the scoring at the 15:51 mark of the third period with a power play goal with assists from Dawson Ernst and Diego Cazac, forcing the game into overtime.

A scoreless overtime period forced a shootout, where Luke Van Imschoot got the puck past Storm goaltender Dawson Groen for the 4-3 win.

The Storm will be back on home ice on Wednesday to host the Williams Lake Mustangs at 7 p.m. in McArthur Park Arena.
