Kamloops firefighters take down late night grass fire near prison

KAMLOOPS — Kamloops Fire Rescue took down a small grass fire late Saturday (Oct. 10) night near the Kamloops Regional Correctional Centre.

Platoon Chief Kris Krutop says crews responded with a fire engine and water tender shortly after 10:15 p.m.

“They arrived on scene between 2400 and 2500 Hillside Drive, and they were able to make their way through a city gate. They used multiple hand lines and the water tender was used as a water supply because they weren’t close to a hydrant. it took about 1,000 gallons to put it out,” said Krutop

Krutop said the fire grew to approximately 100 feet by 40 feet before firefighters snuffed it out about an hour after they arrived at the scene.
