SALMON ARM — With new lightning up and running, Salmon Arm’s artificial sports field at Blackburn Park is officially complete and ready for play to go on after the sun sets.

City officials said the new lights will allow the community to take advantage of the field at the days get shorter.

Until November 1, the lights will remain on until 9 p.m. every night for local teams and residents to enjoy the turf.

“If the field is not booked, residents are welcome to kick a ball around, go for a run or simply enjoy the field under the lights. Scheduled bookings by user groups take priority,” said the city.

Salmon Arm notes that the synthetic turf can be used year-round, when conditions allow.

“The field will close when temperatures fall below -5° Celsius, when snow is present, or when frost or ice covers more than 25 per cent of the playing surface,” said city officials.

After the $1 million artificial turf field was completed in 2025, the City of Salmon Arm contributed a further $153,000 for the lightning, with contributions from several other organizations to reach the $237,000 cost of the project.

Contributions came from:

  • Franklin Engineering Ltd.
  • Daybreak Rotary Salmon Arm
  • 55+ BC Games Legacy Fund
  • Shuswap Youth Soccer Association’s generous project supporters
  • Yeti Rugby Club
  • Shuswap Women’s Recreational Soccer Association
  • Protek Power and Controls Ltd.
  • BC Amateur Sport Fund
  • Onsite Engineering Ltd.
  • Shuswap FC Facilities Committee

“A special thank you to the Shuswap Youth Soccer Association for their leadership and dedication in helping bring the Light the Field at Blackburn Park fundraising initiative to life,” said the city.

Teams, leagues, schools, camps, tournaments and other organized groups can book the field through the City of Salmon Arm’s website.
