Blazers ride power play success to 4-1 win over Broncos

KAMLOOPS — The Kamloops Blazers took advantage of the power play in a 4-1 come-from-behind victory over the Swift Current Broncos Friday (Oct. 9) night at Sandman Centre, their first home win of the 2026-2027 WHL season.

Stepan Farushev opened the scoring for the visiting Broncos at 9:22 mark of the opening period.

Four minutes later, River Arnason got the Blazers on the scoreboard with his first in the WHL, scored on the power play to make it 1-1 after one period.

Mateo Ferreira made it 2-1 Blazers at 14:40 of the second period, when he struck on the power play.

The Blazers’ third power play goal of the night came at 6:31 of the third period when Collin Kim found the back of the net to put the home team up by two goals.

Eli Tverdovsky rounded out the scoring with his first-ever WHL goal at 14:07, securing the Blazers’ 4-1 victory.

Logan Edmonstone stopped 20 of 22 shots in the Blazets net to pick up the win. Cal Conway was the busier netminder as he turned aside 40 of 44 shots.

The Blazers are back in action on home ice on Monday (Oct. 12) afternoon for a 2:00 p.m. matinee game against the Portland Winterhawks on Thanksgiving.
