Tattoo artist McAfee hopes to represent OneBC in Kamloops Centre

KAMLOOPS — Rocky McAfee will be carrying the OneBC flag in Kamloops Centre, as the party contests its first provincial election, a little over a year after it was founded.

The long-time tattoo artist told CFJC Today he has long thought about seeking political office, adding the snap election call two years into the government’s mandate was perfect timing for him to try and make his mark.

“We’re very unhappy with the way the province is going now under this present government,” McAfee said. “This is not the B.C. I grew up in and people want change – and the only way to get change is to vote for change.”

McAfee sees health care, crime and public safety as well as affordability as key issues facing British Columbians. He said he “loves” what leader Dallas Brodie and OneBC stand for, and believes there are others who feel the same way.

“I went to Dallas Brodie’s first rally in Kamloops in November 2025… and she has basically reclaimed my confidence in the political system, because she speaks from the heart and speaks truth,” McAfee said. “She wants common sense back in the government so we can have a good province, so there aren’t the problems we’re facing.”

Brodie was kicked out of the B.C. Conservative caucus last year for mocking the testimony of residential school survivors. Asked what his stance on Indigenous reconciliation is, McAfee said OneBC “just wants the truth on everything.”

“As far as reconciliation goes, that is diving people,” McAfee said. “DRIPA, OneBC wants to repeal DRIPA. The other parties have now put it in their platforms but they didn’t put it on their campaign literature.”

Voters in Kamloops Centre will have five prospective candidates to choose from on Oct. 24, but McAfee says OneBC is the only true conservative option.

“When David Eby called a snap election, it was just out of the blue and he figured he had his golden opportunity but I think it’s kind of backfiring because Dallas [Brodie] had one seat in the legislature and now there are 35 confirmed candidates right across B.C.,” McAfee said. “When you see that happen, you know people want change.”

“The campaign has been tough for everybody but we’re all working hard around the clock and I think we’re going to do very good.”
