KAMLOOPS — A pair of previously postponed planned power outages in the North Thompson Valley are now scheduled to go ahead on Sunday, Oct. 25, the day after the 2026 provincial election.

BC Hydro says the outages are needed so crews can perform critical maintenance at Heffley Creek substation and on the transmission line serving the North Thompson region. Initially scheduled for Oct. 18, the outages were postponed a few hours later as it coincided with an advance polling day.

The first outage will last six-and-a-half hours from 8:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and affect approximately 2,176 BC Hydro customers (down from the previous estimate of 2,178) in Heffley Creek and Sun Peaks.

The second will last about two-and-a-half hours between 12:00 p.m. and 2:30 p.m., and affect approximately 8,742 customers (down from the previous estimate of 10,363) in Avola, Barriere, Blue River, Clearwater, Little Fort, McBride, Valemount and Vavenby.

“For the safety of the public and crews performing this work, these outages will occur during daylight hours,” BC Hydro said in a statement. “All impacted customers with up-to-date contact information will receive notifications via e-mail and automated phone calls.”

“Some customers living near Heffley Creek, Knouff Lake and McLure are on a different circuit and will not be impacted by this outage. BC Hydro appreciates and thanks its customers for their patience while this important work is completed.”
