CANDIDATE CHECK-IN: O’Reilly believes zero-incumbent push is ‘vocal minority’

KAMLOOPS — Six candidates will be on the ballot for the top job in Kamloops on October 17, including two of the nine currently elected around the horseshoe.

Mike O’Reilly is taking aim at the mayor’s chair after two terms as a councillor. While there has been much talk about wiping the slate clean and electing zero incumbents, O’Reilly said he’s not hearing that at front doors.

“Vocal minority, very much,” said O’Reilly. “We are not hearing that on the ground. Are there people who want some change? Absolutely, but I think the majority of people understand that a wholesale change and clean the slate or sweep everybody out… it’s not healthy for the city. It’s not healthy for the corporation. And there needs to be some continuity and transfer of knowledge.”
