KAMLOOPS — It was a victorious weekend for the Thompson Rivers University (TRU) WolfPack soccer program.

The TRU women’s soccer team remains undefeated on the 2026 Canada West season. Second-year winger Sara Kuusimaki scored her second goal of the season in the 67th minute to give the WolfPack a 1-0 win over the Trinity Western University Spartans, the No. 9 ranked women’s soccer team in U Sports, in Langley on Saturday (Oct. 3).

The WolfPack women returned home on Sunday (Oct. 4) and shut out the University of the Fraser Valley Cascades 2-0 at Hillside Stadium. First-year midfielder and Valleyview Secondary graduate Allison Hill scored her first career U Sports goal in the 67th minute then assisted on fourth-year forward Kat Stewart’s goal in the 69th minute.

Hill scored her first career goal two minutes after being stopped on a penalty kick.

“I was just so excited to be honest. It felt like slow motion and to be surrounded by my teammates after,” Hill states. “I was just buzzing. I was honestly just a little angry at myself and I tried to take that out on the other team. I got a little more firepower after that to just go for it.”

Second-year goalkeeper Floor Ursem made two saves on Saturday and two saves on Sunday for her ninth and 10th clean sheets of her career, respectively, adding to her WolfPack program record in U Sports competition.

“We’ve had a great start and credit to the whole team, even the players that haven’t seen as many minutes as they’d like, they have given energy off the bench, so we’ll do our best to keep on rolling and see if we can get some more results and into the postseason,” Mark Pennington, WolfPack women’s soccer team head coach states.

On the men’s side, the WolfPack won their second consecutive game, defeating the University of Lethbridge Pronghorns 1-0 at Hillside Stadium on Saturday (Oct. 3).

Fifth-year midfielder and Sa-Hali Secondary graduate Alesandro Comita scored his second goal of the season on a penalty kick in the 75th minute. Third-year goalkeeper Toran Rutherford made four saves for the clean sheet.

“It was a tough battle both ways, a real defensive battle for both sides,” John Antulov, WolfPack men’s soccer team head coach states. “In the past couple of years we might not have been able to get something out of that, but it’s nice to see the guys grind and battle and get a result.”

The WolfPack women’s soccer team has five wins, zero losses and three draws, good for 18 points in eight matches. They’re second in the Canada West Pacific Division standings, trailing the 10-0-0 and No. 1 U Sports ranked University of British Columbia (UBC) Thunderbirds.

The TRU men’s soccer has six wins, three losses and zero draws in nine matches, good for a 0.667 win percentages (wins multiplied by three, plus ties). The WolfPack are second in the Pacific Division standings, trailing the 9-0-2 and No. 2 U Sports ranked UBC Thunderbirds.

Both the men’s and women’s TRU soccer teams have six matches remaining in the 2026 Canada West season. They’ll host the UBC Thunderbirds Friday, Oct. 9, at Hillside Stadium. The women kick off at 5:00 p.m. while the men will follow suit at 7:30 p.m.
